I dunno if you've seen this before, but, currently, this page is THE page for learning what the basics are for swapping your e28 auto for a manual.

I'm hoping to get this done over my Christmas break, with the help of a fairly knowledgable hack mechanic like me ;-). He's a state trooper, so I dunno how much knowledge he'll have (just kiddin!!), but we'll see.

And, if I DO get this done, WHENEVER it gets done, you can bet that I'll have well over 100 pictures on the whole thing, most of which will be posted -- with text -- to my website.
