You will also destroy the bearing, which is ok, but you will have a very hard time getting the outer bearing race out using just a hammer and pieces of pipe as suggested by Bentley.
In almost 20 years of working on cars in my garage, I've only had to suffer the indignity of packing it up and having it towed to a shop. And that was doing the rear bearing/stub axles.
And, worst of all, my shop would have charged only $75 labor to replace the rear bearing. Well worth it, IMO.
I am having a problem removing my rear stub axles. I am trying to drive them out per Bentley page 17-12. I am destroying the bearing, which is normal, however, I can not get them to budge. Should I get a sleeve and exert force on the inner bearing? Any advice out there?
