Ron, is there anyway you could post or send me anything the BMW ETM has on the instrument cluster. I'm still having problems with my speedometer/odometer and of course the SI. I have cluster for 86 and 84. Darin I can understand how you'd be frustrated. The cluster I have for the 86 worked fine before I pulled it (other than the SI), but only after 66 miles the odometer quit. Similar thing happen with my 89 325is. OCB went kaput, went through the trouble of disassembling/reassembling the whole dash to install know working OCB and LED doesn't work. If it's any consolation, I'm having intermittent problems with my right front blinker (84 528e. Get the rapid flash indicator until I establish good contact at bulb. Is it that critical to use
BMW bulbs? Whats the reference to "being tinned".

BMW e28 ETM suspiciously similar to Bentley. Apparently Bentley has no monopoly on goofs- certain errors are reproduced in the ETM. For example, both incorrectly claim that the coolant level sensor is closed with low coolant level. The ETM also shows the hot side of the fuel injectors on the automatic 535i as being connected to the hot side of ICV and nothing else (i.e. neither the injectors nor the ICV are powered).Schematic layouts are similar in style to Bentley, though BMW ETM has more detail. Especially nice is that the ETM shows some circuitry within various electronic modules, such as the instrument cluster, and differentiates between the early and later SI boards. It still doesn't explain what pin 5 on the diagnostic connector indicates.
Thanks Ron. My car is an '87 but I can't believe BMW would create a whole new blinker circuit. I may have to get one of those.
Darin S.
