When I purchased my 533i 4 years ago, that strip was brown, so I replaced that strip, looked great. About a year ago, the brown started to come back. My point is, if you plan on keeping the car for very long, consider making those strips black. I used Forever Black on the plastic part, leaving the chrome for now, may use self etching primer and black paint for that later. I'll post pictures in a week or so.

I got tired of looking at that nasty brown windshield gasket seal and broke down and replaced it. I asked when I was at the "Stealer's" parts counter and all he said I needed was lots of silicone lubricant. They of course didn't sell it. I went to my local parts store and told them what I was doing, what I needed, and what the stealer told me. The closest thing he said he had was Liquid Wrench w/Teflon.

Bavauto sells a tool that's supposed to make the insertion easier but it cost's $20 and I needed the instant gratification. Plus I read on here once that it could be done with a nice big flat-head screwdriver. The more lubricant you use, the easier it is. Took me about 1 hour to do the front and back. Anyways, the difference is phenomenal. All together, it cost me about $40 for the gaskets and lube. I could have gotten the gaskets cheaper if I had mail ordered them, but I was working on a wim. Here's a few pix.
