First off, is the compressor clutch turning when you turn on the AC? is the AC switch in the console lighting up when you have the AC on? Check the stuff from the post above this, and also check to make sure the fan speen switch and the AC switch (in dash)are pluged in and working correctly.

I feel for you . I'm in North Phoenix. Check underneath the windshield washer resevoir . There is (for some reason) two connectors within a foot of each other before the wire goes into the firewall. Mine gets disconnected almost every time I change my plugs(i never learn...). If it's not that, you're probably low on freon. The system has and auto shut-off for when the system gets too low to prevent the compressor from burning out. Just check all of the electrical connections to the compressor.
