The only "camber" play in the system is if:
1)ball joints in the lower control arms are bad
2)wheel bearings are shot

#2 would produce noticible noise and sloppy handling (not to mention strange braking since the play would force the caliper pistons to retract too far).

I had my 1985 535i up on stands this morning to change the oil. I noticed that when I push and pull on the top/bottom of the front wheels they move in and out pretty easily. I have never noticed this on another car. Is this normal for a bmw or is a sign of a problem?
