Absolutely. My dad bought/leased this car new in May 1987 (I was 5). He took it to the dealer for everything until the main mechanic there left and started his own shop. That's who we still take it to. So, this guy has worked on my car since it was brand new. Dad told me that he always checks other stuff on the car while he's around that area. That's how he found the center steering link the other day. I am NEVER taking my baby to another mechanic as long as I live around central Louisiana!
My guess is that this is the indication that the battery has exceeded it's useful life and it is time for a new one. I would probablly get a new Diehard from sears, but if I had a choice I would get an Optima brand battery. A couple of years ago I was on the Mercedes Vetrans board since my daily dirver was a 1976 Mercedes coupe. There were many glowing reccomendations of the Optima battery and it's reported to have outlasted nearly every other brand by a country mile. I have seen them lately at AutoZone here in the Atlanta area.
"Bad battery" hit me about 20 minutes ago, on my way home from work (had to snag a ride from someone). Since my 5er will be at the mechanic's, again, for the new link and new rotors tomorrow, he'll probably find that and drop a new battery in for me.
Thanks for the suggestion.
