Recently, on my 1987 535is, I removed my Electronic Transmission Control unit, my instrument cluster, battery (to put a charge on it because of a short on fuse #5), disconnected Connector 238 (behind and to left of glovebox), resoldered splice #450, cleaned all contacts at Ground #102 (directly on the fender to right of battery) and opened up the fuse box (in search of short on previous fuse). After all of this I now have an idle of 1500rpm in Park and Neutral but not in drive or any other gear. I don't know it there is a specific procedure for removing the Transmission Control Unit and what the consequences of not following the procedures would be. If any one can help me trouble shoot this I would appreciate it. I have searched the archives and found some related or similar problems that I will investigate but if anyone knows of any obvious problems to check for I would be greatly indebted.
