1988 528e Idle Problems (archive)

Here are the symptoms:

Car normally idles around 700-800.

Yesterday for the first time when I started it it was idling around 1000-1200. Still had normal excelleration and power. This went on for the rest of the day. I drove it about 200 miles during the rest of the day. Started and stopped serveral times through out the day. Gas milage is way down around 21-22 on the highway.

Periodically during the day the car with momentarly drop back to normall 800 rpm idle.

Any suggestions.

Second question.

At night when I turn on the lights idle drops around 300 rpm to 400-500 rpms. Is this the alternator starting to go bad?
