2) the 'special' wrench that comes with the Bilsteins will only work with the new 'caps'
that come with the inserts. (unless you have
stiens to start with) use a big pair of channel
locks or a hammer and screw driver to get the old
cap off to pull out the old insert. it should come out no problem unless you have gotten a bunch of water and crap down in them. I put new
bilstien sport inserts on my car a few weeks ago.
the new inserts fit tight into the tube. in fact I
had to pull the bilstein sticker off the insert to get it to go down in the tube, it was that tight. after the sticker was off they went right in, other than that it was easy. good luck.
For those of you that have rebuilt your front ends, I have a few questions (I'm no master mechanic, keep that in mind):
1. Do I need to put some bearing grease in the strut bearings?
2. Do I just use a torque wrench (1/2" drive) with the "special wrench" that bilstein provides to get the shock insert out, is there a special wrench that I need? 3. Do the inserts come out easy?
Thanks for any advice.
