1) test values of coolant temp sensor at the sensor
2) test thermo-time switch at the sensor
3) test above values at input into ICM and Motronic brain (this will ensure the integrity of the wiring)
4) test operation of CSV in relation to the thermo-time switch.
there's plenty of info on this in the Bentley manual under Fuel Injection.
if #1 is out of spec (or the wiring is bad), the Motronic is being told the engine is cold.
if #2 is bad, the Motronic is squirting extra gas at startup.
if #4 is bad, the CSV could be electrically "always-on" and contstantly providing more fuel than necessary during operation.
if #4 is bad, the CSV could be mechanically leaking and constantly providing more fuel.
I would test these in order. your most likely culprit is #1 or the wiring. good luck....
