Fix your over-heating problem first: check for leaks. The way you described it, it sounds like a sudden leak. If that's not the case, consider your thermostat first, then check your fan clutch, then your electric fan.

Any hot-running car will run poorly - warped head or not. You'll know soon enough if you did serious damage. My head just went, and I'm in the process of fixing it. Not sure yet if it was a warp, or a blown gasket - the shops are closed this weekend. The symptoms were as follows: mysterious loss of coolant, and occasional (depending on heat) white steam - not smoke - coming from the exhaust. Of course warped or blown heads can exhibit any combo of coolant/oil/compression problems.
