You disconnect the fed line at the resivior and pump the master cylinder to get rid of the fluid in the line, so it dosen't spill all over the inside of the car. Then, remove the fill line from the top of the cylinder, un-screw the line to the slave (in the engine compartment), loosen and take off the bolts on the inside and remove. I found that when installing the new one hook up the fill line first, then loosely bolt it up there and then screw the line to the slave. Tighten the 2 mounting bolts last. Good Luck!!

I've got a leaking clutch master cylinder, a good used unit came as extra parts with the car (528e). I need to know the best way to change it. Haynes says to disconnect feed line in engine compartment. It is very hard to get to, right under brake booster. Can I disconnect that metal line from the rubber line down where it's easy to get to & pull the metal line through with the master ?

Thanks..........
