As long as the fan draws air and it's not leaking silicone fluid, it's probably OK. The "test" is if you can stop it with a rolled section of newspaper, it's OK.

I have had A/C shops tell my customers that their brand new clutches (with fewer than 2000 miles on them) were "bad" because they are so much less aggressive than domestic fan clutches.

These clutches are designed to draw MUCH less HP from your engine than most.

I just replaced the fanclutch in my 85 528e, car still ran hot so I broke down and got a new radiator, now the fan clutch is out (I can stop it with my hand w/ engine at 3/4 temp). Are those things that volatile? Is this common, could I have just gotten a bad new fan clutch?

Thanks for any help,
John Futch
