When I pulled my steering box out, if I remember correctly, I had to pull all the bolts from the U-joint, and remove the hardware from the steering box to slide it forward enough to remove the U-joint. Good luck!

it seems to be no way without pullin the box
or perhaps the column.i need to fix this before my
wife buys a new Subaru thanks Andy
