I need to check the gear oil in my 83 528e 5 speed but i cant find a tool big enough to get the drain plug out any ideas?

with 3/8" drive you'll probably need a breaker bar, those plugs tend to be difficult to remove. TIP: remove fill plug on side of tranny (same tool) BEFORE you remove the drain plug at bottom!
