Here we go again. Another one of these. . .
but why on earth did you buy a 528e and pour a lot of money into it?
First of all, I didn't buy a 528e. My car was a gift from my father who bought it brand new in May of '87. And if you're going to ask me this question, you better ask just about every other e28 owner on the planet, because I know many many people have have "poured a lot of money" into their babies. How does $12,000 over a few years sound?
In my area I've seen automatic 83 633CSi's with Fillipaldi wheels
That must be a sight, because I've never heard of Fillipaldi wheels.
ground effects, and chips, you name it, with 150,000 miles, and yet they will not sell for even $3,500.
Perhaps the owner wasn't trying to make an investment when he bought the car. To some people, the resale value isn't really a big deal when it comes to their cars. Hmmm, come to think of it, that's probably just about everyone on this board. . . except for you.
You must know that cars are among the worst investments on the planet,
Which is why, even if I HAD paid for my car, I wouldn't have considered it an investment.
so why would you pick a 528e of all the cars, especially with an automatic (manuals seem to be worth a lot more in my area 'cause no one wants an enthusiast car that shifts by itself)?
See above
How much money have you poured into your car?
You seem to like that word. Pour. You must think I'm some hotshot rich kid that has oogles of money to burn and nothing to do all day but flip burgers or deliver pizzas. In reality, I'm a 19-year-old college student with a $400-a-month paycheck that lucked out and got a dad that bought a BMW brand new in '87 and still had it until he gave it to his son.
BTW, I'm not going to answer your question, because I haven't added up the receipts. I don't intend to, either. Quick poll: does anyone WANT to add up their receipts real quick? I didn't think so.
Do you ever plan on selling it?
Nope.
I doubt you'd get a decent price for it with roughly 225,000 miles...and remember it's no 535i or M5, and it's an automatic.
Well damn, that sucks. I'm not gonna get a decent price for it? I should've thought about that when Dad bought the car in '87. Can you see a little 5-year-old kid telling his dad to be sure and buy the 535iS manual because it'll have a better resale value in 2001?
On top of that, I hope you're engine and tranny are good because what would you do if something were to go wrong with a major component?
I'd probably have it fixed. I dunno, that's what some people do when something goes wrong. What do you do?
You'd have to invest MORE money into the Power Wheels mobile.
I've never seen an electrically-operated e28, but I'd imagine there's one somewhere out there.
Furthermore, I hope you don't ever drive people in the back seat of your car because your CD changer will definitely get ruined somehow if you do.
definitely get ruined somehow
So, you know it'll get ruined (hasn't yet, after many trips with two or three people in the back seat), but you don't know how. It's not like I have little children riding in my back seat. The passengers are normal human beings that realize there's an expensive piece of equipment at their feet. You'd be surprised at how people can act when they're told they'll be castrated if they kick the CD changer at their feet.
By the way, you must have a changer. I'm assuming this, because you seem to have immense experience with them. I don't, but I don't go telling people where to put their changers. Anyway, where's your changer? In the trunk? I would've put mine there if I didn't swap the CDs out so often. . . in the rain.
I know the the back of my car is not a safe place for an expensive CD changer with my friends back there.
See above. Maybe you're not talking to your friends correctly.
About the website, I think it's pretty cool...the links and gallery are awesome,
Thanks
but don't we all, except for the blond women here(kidding),
Of course
know how to change hood shocks?
Ask that question to the two people that e-mailed me, thanking me for the page, claiming that they hadn't a clue how to do this until looking at the page.
And the door sills/interior trim bit is also quite simple as long as you have a few brain cells,
The interior trim sure isn't. It's a real bitch to do, especially if you don't know about the two screws holding the upper part to the door.
and I'm not even going to mention the FAQ on removing the seat.
Good, because people have already thanked me for that one.
Also, the extra brake light trick can be done in a simpler way as well.
You're absolutely correct. If I had done this mod last week, I would have done it better, but, since I did it over a year ago when I hardly new anything about these cars, I didn't.
I mean, why not have more important FAQ's like OBC light replacement by saudering in a new light, or adding rear headrests, or how about a tech tip on fixing idle problems, or relocating the battery to the trunk?
Good ideas. And when my OBC light burns out, rear headrests show up at a good price, my idle gets worked on, and my battery takes up a horrendous amount of my trunk space, I'll be sure to do those pages and e-mail you when they're done.
All in all, why add 16" rims, an IS spoiler, Euro lights, a Valentine 1(hardwired), a CD changer, a new reciever, a new differential, and loads of TIME to a 528e which isn't even a fast car?
I don't remember ever mentioning, on my site, that I was going to take my 528e racing. I must have keyed that in when I was half asleep. Show me the part on my site that has that, and I'll be sure to remove it. I'm sorry if I confused you.
I'd rather drive a stock 535is than a Goofy lookin' "Euro" 528e with an automatic anyday.
Thanks for your opinion. It really matters. . . to someone. . . just not me.
Why make a slow car just look like a fast car?
Perhaps I like the look of it.
I do NOT understand your, or anyone else's, logic at all.
Then buy a Mustang.
P.S. - I have driven an automatic 528e before. I feel your pain. BTW, sorry for being an ass too. I'm just really not understanding any of this jibba jabba.
Then quit bitchin' and make a website with info on your car and how to do things to make your car better. No one likes a bitch. You're the same guy that ragged on Pierre Suranto and Josh Smiley just because they a) had slightly different tastes than most of us or b) didn't have perfect typing and grammatical skills.
E-mail me the link to your website, and I'll put it at the top of every one of my pages. Yours must blow mine an the M535i.org guys away.
