These cars are not easy to install a clean all around sound in. I have had my '88 "is" for almost 7 years, and have finally accomplished a clean stereo system. I have tried many variations over the years from past experiences and ideas from friends that were professional installers, and they hated my car. Some stuff is pricy, and others were bargans. The source has to be clean, I have tried mid grade decks and in-dash CD's, waste of money, even the best amps won't sound clean. I put in Bostin 5.2 Pro's in the door, with a slight mod. You all will hate me for vandalism, but make custom door panals. Go to a scrap yard and find some extra door panals, save the orig. ones. Make an external speaker pod/storage pockets that are functional. If you have a Tap Plastics store near by you are set. You can construct it to your deminsions using plastics (or the now cool carbon fiberlook). If no Tap, good wood can be used. I kept a stock look with a late '80's 911 concept. You now have a 5" or better mid at your side, and can use the stock tweet mounts in the door. Put the 4"s in the back deck, possibly in the stock pods. Who cares what the people hear in the back seat, it's still better than factory. And again with the vandalism, I CUT, I'm sorry, I had to. I built a "band pass box" for a JL 10", and ported it through in front if the third brake light. Any resistance at the tube opening, and all sound is shot (i.e. the thick leather covering the seat back when the arm rest is down.) Ports need to be wide open to do their best. Now for dessert. I spent about $350 on two amps (California series) one to the sub at about 250 wats, and a 4 chanel at about 50 wats per. at the mids. The 'Stones rock hard enough to make your ears ring for hours after. If desired you can go into bone shaking BOOM, hell even Grandpa grins at its Jazz abilities. I have had $1500 dollar systems that didn't compare (The poor thief that trashed my car did me a favor taking that one.) Sorry it's sooo long winded, but I have had years to play with this stuff, and I am glad I am FINALLY done! If I left any questions unanswered, E mail me.
