i have looked into it but hav,nt attempted it. have an 86 535i parts car and an 82 528e.
the system basically is composed of three main components and associated wiring harness.
- speed sensors on ea. wheel
-valve assy. r/h fwd eng comp.
-control unit some where under dash?
the speed sensors send info to the control unit. any wheel that slows down( locked up and skidding)is detected by the control unit which reduces brake line pressure to the skidding wheel by sending a signal to the valve assy.

i think it is doable but is a pretty major operation not for tha faint of heart. trick is to extract the control unit, wiring harness and fit it to the car. also plan on transplanting most of the brake lines along with the \valve assy. also need to transplant all four strut/hub assys and sensors and wiring. big job.

saw the post on changing from manual to power seats and wondered if anyone has converted the regular brakes over to ABS. I've got a 86 sitting in the backyard that has ABS, but the 84 I'm driving now doesn't. Haven't really considered changing the brake or necessarily needing ABS till I tried to stop after a light rain in the 84 and slid for several feet. Thought maybe it was because of oil on the road surface because I didn't apply much force to the pedal, but I've been able to recreate this lockup with little effort on straight patch of road away from stop lights and signs. Anyone else here with similar problem with regular vs. ABS brakes?
Joseph
