Will it shift in Manual Mode w/ switch in 3-2-1? (archive)

My mother bought a 535 auto. 3 days later fuel consumption went insane.
While workig on that, the auto transmission farted out.It only goes in 1rst and rev. If i disconnect the tcu, I get 3rd and rev only.
I did the electric maual tests, they seem to be ok. Moving the shifter through the gear ranges causes correct voltages at the correct tcu outputs.
Can anyone suggest a definitive test(s)wheather tcu or transmission?
I also picked up a 533i 5sp W/pedals, flywheel, clutch, shifter. I may want to swap, I'll need mastercyl driveshaft, trans brace. Or if i can fix 4hp 22, perhaps I'll want to sell...
