When you have the A/C on, all the slide levers should be in the full left position. This should exclude any air from any source and any outlet but the center dash ones.

If you have heat coming out of any other outlet with all 3 levers left, then you have broken cables AND a bad HVAC situation.

With the temp control full cold, the heater valve on the firewall should keep any hot water OUT of the heater core. This means with the top and bottom levers right of "off" only ambient air should come from the floor and defroster outlets UNLESS the heater valve is NOT closed. Full CCW on the temp sends a 12v signal to the valve to close fully (check this with a volt meter).

If with the temp control anywhere but full CCW, you get uncontrolled heat from any vents, you have a bad thermistor, probably in the cabin temp sensor (above your driver's knee).

Consult your Bentley manual for more information. BTW. don't bother messing around at all if you don't have this book.
