In Reply to: HELP!!!! Damn central locking...archive no help!!! posted by Rob K. on November 04, 2001 at 20:24:50:

OK. I checked the archives and pulled out the ole Mesa central lock FAQ but neither helps. After reinstalling the driver's and passenger's door lock cylinders (following repaint) I can't get the doors to stay unlocked...UNLESS I UNLOCK FROM THE TRUNK! This is driving me mad. Fuse 5 is fine. The doors do unlock for a split second, but immediately relock. If I open the driver's door during that split second, the locks continuously cycle until I close it again, then they remain locked. No matter if I use the key outside or attempt to unlock from inside. Same effect from the passenger side. I also disconnected the driver's door lock motor and the passenger's door lock motor (separately) but no changes. I'm sure this is ridiculously simple, but I'm going nuts trying to figure out what the hell it's doing!!! I'm sure someone's run into this one before (at least I hope!!!!!)

Thanks,
Rob K. '86 535i with door lock motors that just aged about 2 years...
