Can anybody (who has been here, replaced that) give me some symptoms of a bad Idle Control Valve.
Thanx,
Chuck

Poor starting and bad idle (or worse than usual anyway) are common symptoms but both can be attributed to other things. Check the valve itself. It's fairly simple. Pull the valve out of the intake bellows and look into the opening that makes a 90 degree bend to the rest of the body. Note the amount of opening visible. Take a small screw driver and move the valve completely closed, then completely open. Pay attention for sticky spots. It should move freely. If it doesn't, it has a problem. Now with the opening fully opened or closed with the wiring harness still plugged up, have someone turn on the ignition while you watch the valve. It should return to the same position it was in when you first removed it. If you first tried it with it open now do the same with it closed, or vice versa. If it fails to return to the about the same spot either time, there's a problem. Sometimes a little carburetor cleaner can help clear out the carbon in an idle valve. The carbon build up is usually the cause of the valve sticking in spots. However, the carbon cleaning is only a temporary cure as the idle valve will need to be replaced soon anyway. Hope this helps. By the way, I didn't catch in your question wether you had a two wire or three wire idle control valve. The two wire has some adjustment available for setting the idle. The three wire doesn't (at least it wasn't meant to be, but there are ways around that).
