door glass seperated from guide(?) (archive)

on the rear doors on my e28 the door glass has seperated from the the metal slide that guides the window up and down. this is the metal strip with two 'u' channels that the window was originally glued(?) to? can i use silicone to reattach the glass to these guides? or is there another product for this. tia.
