First, let me preface this message with the following information. I am the current owner of an E28 535iS and a '98 E38 740i. Have previously owned E24 635's as well as a Euro E23 745i.
Tonite while driving my '87 928 S4 down I74 in SE Indiana, I was in the fast lane, car in front of me traffic to my right side. Approaching rapidly from behind me appears a BMW (too far away to tell model). As he comes up on me he flips his lights on w/ fogs as if to tell me to get over. I can now tell it is an E28 (model unknown). He rides my rear for awhile and as traffic clears in front of me I drop it into 3rd and take off. You could tell he was trying to catch up to me but not even close. As traffic clogs up again, I move to the right lane where he eventually pulls ahead of me and I pull in behind.
Its' a silver E28, BADGED M5!!!!!! Embarrassing!!!! Ohio plates - if your on the board, you should be ashamed of yourself!!! Just to test to see if a possible turbo, stroker, etc, might have been added to car I proceeded to get ahead of him and give him the chance to prove car again. He tried to stay again, nowhere! My conclusion based on tailpipe, stock 535.
I wish I knew who these people are trying to impress by putting M badges on cars, because the only people that appreciate the M are the ones that know what their all about.
I love my 535iS, but know its limitaions. If you want an M, buy an M, but don't embarrass the marque and the rest of us by trying to compete with other cars that are totally out of reach in speed with your vehicle.
Sorry for the ranting, just wonder how many Mustangs, Camaros, and Firebirds have beat this "M" car?
