Remove the speaker and the small piece of carpet that covers that area. About 6 inches above the speaker cutout is a small philips head screw. Remove it. Put your hand up into the speaker cutout hole and grab the unit. It's a black plastic box about 2" by 6". It should be loose. Pull it out and then disconnect wiring harness. Putting it back is a pain because of the tiny screw and difficulty lining the box up to accept it, but it can be done, obviously. A helper would make it easy. A little spray adhesive will help the carpet stick nicely when you put it back.

How do you get to the central door lock unit on my '84 533i? Somebody posted on here you can get to it by removing the front right speaker, but I can't see anything when I take this out. Any help would be appreciated.
