I have just done this twice on my '87 535i and it was no problem without dropping the tranny. I can't imagine doing it without dropping the drive shaft though.

O-K I've scanned the archives and visited the websites. Now I need to ask the question: Do I need to lower the transmission in my 88 535is in order to do a complete shifter upgrade? It's not that I can't do it, I replaced the tranny in my 320i a couple of years ago, it's just that I don't really want to mess with it that much. I have rather small hands if that makes a difference. I guess I'd just like to hear from someone who has done it.
