The 1986 28e I now driving, my wife bought new. When the rear muffler failed, in 1993, she went to Midas, who replaced it with a stock muffler. It was not until 2000, when my daughter had the car at college, that the rear muffler again failed. Midas replaced it for free (plus a $5.00 charge for the chrome tip). The OEM mufflers appear to work well, and Midas honors its warranty.

In contrast, I bought a used 1968 MGB-GT while I was in dental school (1971). I replaced its exhaust system with a Stebro (Canadian company) high flow exhaust. It sounded great, but rusted out about every 18 months. After three of these expensive exhaust system replacements, I returned to the original system (which I ordered from the JC Whitney catalog).

The JC Whitney OEM system lasted from 1975 through 1983, when I sold the MG.

Based on that experience, I am sticking with original exhaust systems. I have no connections with Midas, but they have honored their guarantees from my wife, through my daughter, and finally to me.

Best muffler? I don't know.

Best system? Midas would have to get my vote.

Need a new muffler, should I go stock or is it worth getting something else?? thanks for any input
Kevin
