That guy is either full of crap or he's knowingly trying to pull a fast one on you. Either way, he's wrong and that would lead me to be more suspect about what else he's hiding about the car.

TRXs are roughly 15.3" in diameter. As Kitster says, they also have a different bead design. Can a 15" tire be forced on a TRX rim? Perhaps. Have you seen pictures of victims of tire bead explosions? I have and it ain't pretty. Putting a non-TRX tire on a TRX rim is dangerous to say the least.

Have the car checked out thoroughly and get yourself some other wheels. For alternatives, check out my list of known E28 wheel & tire combinations (a zipped MS Excel file in the "E28 Files" folder).

I'm trying to purchase an '84 533i with TRX rims on it. I'm still a bit confused however about the whole TRX ordeal. I talked to the guy selling the car and he claimed that TRX-sized rims will fit tires that aren't TRX, but there are tires that are less expensive that are a little higher profile. NON-TRX tires fitting TRX rims???? is it true or is this guy just trying to sell me this car?? I apprecitate the help!
