Possible to change older OBC for newer??? (more) (archive)

Is it possible/worth it to change from older OBC like on my 83 533i to the newer OBC as a sort of upgrade? If so is it just a matter of taking out current OBC and installing new one? Or are the electronics all different (SI Board, snensors, etc.)?
