In Reply to: Thule or Yakima Rack?? posted by Erik on December 16, 2001 at 18:58:28:

I have had good luck with the Thule rack. Figure about 3 minutes to take it off, twice that to install. All locks match - 1 key does it all.

Either Thule or Yakima work fine. I hear that the Yakima kayak stackers are better (that is from my sons).

I have a couple of friends who have the Yakima attachments that take the bike with the front wheel attached. We all agree the detached wheel is better, but takes more room in the car.

With either, buy the full tray bicycle attachment, not the short tray. You will be glad you did. Be careful if you have disk brakes or disk compatible front fork. You will need a locking head that stays out of the way. Some of the older heads can be difficult.

You can usually pick up used racks for a fraction of the price of new ones. Just be careful of old bike heads as above.

I'd send you a photograph, but they all look alike. Imagine the same thing with 'Thule' on it.
