I tried bleeding, but I keep getting that awful grinding noise, then red foam in the resevoir. Maybe I need to keep bleeding til it clears out?

My guess is you just need bleeding, if air gets in when it is low it can take a while to get it all out. I think the reccomended procedure is to turn the wheels back and forth a number of times, I have always just filled it up and eventually the noise has gone away, but maybe I have just been lucky.
