There's a big difference between the two.

Do you have the yellowish gunk all over? Do an archive search on "cosmoline" and you should get some good tips. If cosmoline isn't the problem, I use cleaner for painted wheels.

If you want to polish them, you really need to remove them and take them to a professional unless you have a bench-mounted buffer. This is $$ and will make them chrome-like.

I wonder if anyone knows of a good cleaning agent to make my valve cover and intake manifold spotless. I used Brasso for just a second, and it works a little,BUT THEN I saw the container say to not use on Aluminum.
