As I was doing a full body scrub on my 02...er, the OTHER car, I was thinking about our event. Naturally, being of the smarter, not harder school, i.e. basically LAZY, the thought occurred that this kind of thing is probably an SOP for the boys at BMW CCA. So, tomorrow I will give them a call and see if we can get some guidance. I will also call our local chapter guy about the Auto-X options. And I'll call a friend who is the head organizer for the Texas 02 Fest for some guidance from his group on doing this kind of thing. Also, Chris Graff would have some great input, I'm sure. We don't have to reinvent the wheel to make this successful. After, gleaning as much from them as possible, I'll pass it on to you and the organizing team.
As far as location is concerned, every state has its pros and cons. My thought is that we would do infinitely better for the attendees (& ourselves) if we could find a large chapter in the mid-west who knows their territory and could keep us from stepping in a pile horse manure. Also, If we could get guys like Metric Mechanic, for example, to help us with such an event, we'd be in high cotton. So a mid-west loction would seem to be ideal for several reasons, not the least of which is location. I know that would be quite a jaunt for guys from the west and east, but just about everyone would have to travel anyway, so the fainess factor probably scores high for the mid-west. BTW, isn't there a Tech Fest every year in St. Louis? I need to look into that.
Duke, I'll look for your e-mail and we'll get started on this thing. After a little input from more experienced folks than myself, I'll put together some location selection criteria that we can all work with and we'll create a location scorecard which will lend some objectivity to our madness.
Thanks!
Dave
