It is a ten minute job, BUT if the old tires wore evenly and the car wasn't exhibiting any kind of abnormality with the old tires, it is a waste of money and an opportunity for incompetents to screw it up.
Toe alone, in teh absence of other problems, will seldom if ever cause a "pull." It will cause abnormal tire wear or wander/vagueness in steering response. (My dad owned/operated a front end/suspension alignment shop for 30+ years-trust me)
Swapping the tires left/right will usually show IF there is a problem, but front to rear on one side at a time will better show WHICH tire is bad. Bad tires on the rear will usually (I said USUALLY) not cause much pulling.
Make sure they replaced the right (bad) tire before going off on a tangent.

Got my new Aquatred 3's mounted on my car three weeks ago, as well as had the tire shop do an alignment. When I picked up the car, they said it pulled to the left, and they blamed it on a defective tire. Called the Tire Rack, another tire was sent out free of charge, and I had the bad one swapped out. No change- car still pulls pretty badly.
All front and almost all rear alignment settings are within specs. The couple that are outside are barely outside.
Before I spend big $$$ at the local indie BMW shop, what are some things that could be causing this? The car has a new idler arm and new thrust arm bushings up front. Those were done a couple months ago, and the car drove fine afterward. It never pulled at all until the new tires and new alignment.
I can post the old/new alignment specs, if that would be helpful.
Help me, Obi Wan E28 Board. You're my wallet's only hope.
