The light for the head light switch does not plug into anything. it recives power from the switch. You should be able to pull the socket and bulb right out. The back looks like it is suppose to have something attached to it two metal leads going in to the back of the unit. The one behind the ashtray is the one that lights up the ashtray or the lighter.

When my 528e was new, the headlight and foglight switches were illuminated. This is the image of the back of the swich. There is a plug with a small nonfunctioning bulb, which I unplugged from the foglight switch. There appears to be an open socket in the back of the headlight switch portion - what goes in here? I don't see any loose wire with lamp sockets in the vicinity.

Also, I found a loose wire with a lamp hanging behind the ashtray. Any idea where this goes? Thanks.
