When my 528e was new, the headlight and foglight switches were illuminated. This is the image of the back of the swich. There is a plug with a small nonfunctioning bulb, which I unplugged from the foglight switch. There appears to be an open socket in the back of the headlight switch portion - what goes in here? I don't see any loose wire with lamp sockets in the vicinity.

Also, I found a loose wire with a lamp hanging behind the ashtray. Any idea where this goes? Thanks.

I just went through this with my 528. If you just have an open hole behinde the headlight switch as I did then you need to get a new bulb holder (socket) and bulb. It's self powered by the switch with no wires. They are cheap from the dealership.
