Allen,

As long as I've driven my '87 528e -- which is much longer than I've actually OWNED it -- it hasn't even had a headlight switch bulb SOCKET in it. The only way I knew the overhead check panel bulb socket was the correct one was that I have my American check panel sitting on my dresser (have a $10 German one from eBay in the car) with all of the working bulbs just sitting there. I gave it a shot, and it fit perfectly.

That being said, it was somewhat dim. But, I think this could be due to a messed up window (the part on the headlight switcht that lets the light shine through). Either that, or the bulb was the 1-watt type that you mentioned. Honestly, I didn't even know they had two different wattages.

Give the 3-watt a try and see if that'll work. I'll stop by Autozone tomorrow (if I can remember!) and see if I can find some 3-watt bulbs and see if this'll make it shine brighter.
