Each dome light has two wires: Hot and switched. The hot wire comes from fuse 5, and should have battery voltage at all times. Grounding the switched wire turns the light on.
Left dome light:
-Hot: red & white
-Switched: brown & violet
Right dome light
-Hot: white with a red band
-Switched: white with a brown band
There's a 2-pin connector in the headliner near the left dome light where the wires for each light join. The hot wires become a single red & white wire that goes to fuse 5. The switched wires become a single brown and violet wire that goes to the interior light switch.
The interior light switch connects the brown & violet wire to one of 3 places:
-Nowhere (lights are off)
-Brown & red wire (to the interior light timer control)
-Brown wire (ground, turning the dome lights on)
The brown wire goes to a ground point known as G200, which is above the pedal bracket. You have to remove the driver's kick panel, then the equipment rack to the left of the steering column to access it.
My interior light recently quit working and I've narrowed the problem down to the ground, likely where the brown wire connects to the body. Anyone know where to look? The ground wire appears to run down through the pilar between the driver's side door. From there I don't know yet. Of course it couldn't have just been a bulb... thanks Murphy.
