I'll let you know right off, I'm a manual trans kind of guy, but the later ones are infinitely better than the early ones (ever drive a Bavaria with an auto?) and while they don't seem to be particularly long lived, I'm not sure any autos are these days. I have a friend with a Camry that had to be rebuilt at about 100k, a cousin with a couple of late model Fords that needed the auto replaced under warrantee, one of which needs replacement again just out of warrantee. So, maybe, just maybe, the rest of the car lasts so long that the tranny is only fragile by comparison to the rest of it, not to other makes. Mike W.
