You DO need the SI board (mounted with 3 screws to the back of the cluster) to have gauges work, BUT you do NOT need the SI LIGHT board (which is the board behind the fuel/temp gauge).The connections for the gauges pass through the SI board via the flat ribbon wire and connector.
