In Reply to: OBC Relay Box?? posted by Brian on February 03, 2002 at 17:09:57:

Using the trusty Bentley and an archive search (I remembered this being discussed here 3 years ago!), I got it solved and the car started.

It was the OBC relay box.

This thing is not a "relay" like a regular square Bosch relay. It is a black box, roughly the size of 2 decks of cards. It is located to the left (driver's side) of the steering column. It is in a bracket, below a silver box.

It has 2 plugs going into the back of it. One plug has three wires, the other has 4.

The colors, etc. are shown on page 22-36 of the Bentley manual.

To bypass it, you splice together the green wire and the green/red wire. In searching the archives, I noticed someone had a way where you could find 2 connectors and plug them together to accomplish the same thing, but I could not find them and need the car by Monday (tomorrow). So I spliced.

Worked great!

I think this thing has been causing me an intermittent problem for about a year now. I'm glad to have it solved!

I guess it should be a suspect for a no-start condition.

Anyone know where that is located?

Also, it sends its signal to Prong 86 on the main relay, via a green wire. Is this 12V or a ground signal??

When I have my key turned to the accessory position, I have 12V at prong 30, but no voltage at any of the other prongs.

Thus, the car won't start. Anyone have any ideas??
