Thanks Mark, I would appreciate any info I can get on the swap. It might not be easy but it looks like a nice reliable 300 hp and probably 50 fewer pounds on the front end.

Thanks again,

Dave in San Diego

doing this swap right now. He has a nice E28 and last year bought a 4.0l and transmission and was going to do the swap. I will try to find his name and try to contact him.

I have been tossing the idea around for a while and heard of it being done just never seen it.
My thoughts would be to take a M60 4.0L and the 5-speed from the E34 530i. The cost of a M60 6-speed is around $3000 but the 5-speed can be had for as low as $700. There is a complete M60 on ebay with an initial bid of $2000 but no bidders as of yet.
Besides the electronic issues is there any physical reason the engine tranny combo would not fit?

Already thought of the main ones ... ie, engine mounts, driveshaft, master cylinder, but worried about the steering box and anything I haven't thought of.

Way to much time on my hands.

thanks for any input,

Dave
