I did plug in the WEISS connector, but I guess that was unnecessary since I disconnected the lead into the secret odometer many years ago to stop its incessant clicking.
The blue (BLAU) connector I did re-connect had several wires coming from it. It fit nicely right next to the WEISS connector.
Is there another BLAU plug for the brown wire/blue conector? Thanks.
Take a closer look at that "brown" wire. I'm guessing it's actually brown & red. I'm also guessing your cruise control no longer works. The blue connector plugs into the back of the speedometer, in the slot marked BLAU (blue in German). When you plug it in, the wire aims toward the instrument cluster, not away. Normally there's a black plastic cover on the speedo that slides over this area, and it won't close unless the connector is on correctly.
There's an additional wire that plugs in back there, with a white connector (WEISS) that goes to a secret odometer hidden above the driver's kick panel that tells you when it's time to change your O2 sensor.
Don't know what the deal is with your temp gauge. Maybe a dicey connection is a little better now, what with you reseating the plug.
Turned over 190,000 miles on Saturday!
I pulled the instrument cluster this afternoon, and replaced the bulbs. Re-installing it, I found an extra wire, a single brown wire with a blue plug. I couldn't see anyplace for it to go. The gauges all seem to be working fine, and the car runs fine. The only thing a bit different is that the coolant temp gauge now registers about center (straight up) and it read towards the low end before today. Any thoughts about the extra wire and the change in coolant temp?
