Auto Transmission 87 535is (archive)

Hey guys, I have had two of these lovely cars and one 533i. I am experiencing an odd problem though... I have an 87 535is which I absolutely adore, but I am confused about what to do with the transmission. It seems like it isn't shifting out of first gear for some reason. All of the gears work, but it just doesn't up or downshift in Drive. Manually changing from 1-2-3-d doesn't do anything either. Also, the tranny light is on on the console. Recently I had a radiator problem and figured that the systems had bled into one another. So, I changed the fluids, radiator, transmission filter, and waterpump. But still, it's funky. However, it will sometimes drive perfectly fine for like 1-2 miles. The light will go off and it will shift like brand new. Help me out, I'm lost on what could be wrong with it! Thanks much,
