I'm getting my 84 533i tomorrow and am very excited. It has 300,000km (that's 180k miles) and got an incredibly clean bill of health from the german mechanic in town (just valve cover gasket and heater blower motor). I'm not planning on doing anything much right away - probably just a tint and various replacements; new shift knob, roundels, K&N, etc. I'd love to get new wheels, but am on a budget so I will be sticking with the TRXs for summer as they have pretty good rubber and the winters are new. The interior is immaculate (better than my old '96 nissan) and the exterior is as well. I will post pics as soon as the snow and ice melt and I can actually clean and shine it up. (I'm in Calgary, y'see...)
Here's my question...
There are a few little spots starting to rust - a 2-inch round spot in front of the drivers door and the lip of the trunk. Do you guys know the best way to deal with the rust? My friend who does a lot of body work recommended that we just sand out the rust, bondo, prime and spot-paint the area. (The car is black on black leather) He claims that since it is black, you can buff the surrounding areas(fender & trunk) and no one (including me) should be able to tell. I have done some bodywork myself, but don't know enough to believe him. I think we should sand the whole fender and trunk and paint those areas fully, but am worried about being able to tell.
What's your opinion?
