Ok, you have two options:
1. Stay with the 390s, but the only tire available for it (assuming you live the the US), is the Michelin TRX. It's not the worst tire in the world, but it is a 15 year old design and well compared to modern tires, it just plain sucks. Also, I've heard they're quite pricey, about $150 each, but don't quote me on that.

2. You could switch to 14 inchers, but again, you said they look like crap, but then again, tires are really cheap.

3. Ok, three options. You could look on Ebay and find pretty decent BMW 15 or 16 inchers maybe even with tires on them for decent price. Just make sure you check the offset with the rest of the board to make sure it will fit your car.

That is what I'm doing. Right now my TRXs have about 50% tread on them left, so I have about 4 months time. Meanwhile, I'm lookin on Ebay for a good deal on 17 inchers.
