It should be obvious if the hood is warped, but you did say "all of the body lines seem straight." What makes you think the latches might be broken?

Look at how the hood bolts to the hinges, look at the threaded shaft w/ lock nut on the male part of the latch, and look at the adjustable bumpers @ the hood corners.

I cannot align the hood on my 83 533i, how do i tell if the latches are broken, or if the hood is warped, all of the body lines seem straight, any info will help, thanks
