Well my 5spd conversion in #2 535is seems to be doing well, the tranny hasn't fallen out, but an earlier electrical problem has returned. About 6 months ago I started the car, the engine caught for a moment then died, as if the cold start valve wasn't helping it, and after that it just refused to start and the engine seemed to be spinning faster than it would normally. I let it sit for a while and I think I shot it with some ether (sic) "quick start fluid" and it fired up and ran fine. I haven't driven the car for two weeks as we have been very busy with work and when I tried to start it yesterday there was no sign of life and she's spinning faster than usual again. I've dug back in the archieves and come up with...... dead ECU. .....A. there's no spark on a plug I have "grounded" against the valve cover; is the valve cover a good enough ground for spark test? B. I have a motronic unit from the '85 535i donor car I bought for parts, Bentley indicates all 535i motronics are the same; should I stick the '85 ECU in and see what happens? Thanks in advance for any opinions and I'm working on my notes about some qwirks I ran into with my conversion. PhotoSteve 2 x 535is
