I am guessing he had some great looking 19 inch wheels and his ratio was 325 with the 14 inch wheels OEM.

His best torque sweet spot was some where around 3900 to 4000 and his redline was 4300 to 4500
He was most likely a 396 pumping out 300, 325, outside 375 hp.

He was most likely a monster at 145 if he could get to there. I see it every day. He may also have had that power house of acceleration the the GM Powerglide two speed Automatic.

Drive a go cart, then pedal a bicycle.
Notice anything about small wheels and low end fast speeds.

A 40 HP VW could beat almost all comers from one side of the street to the other . The fastest car I have ever driven 0 to 50 mph was a 2 cycle 3 cylinder over head fan shaft, 1973 Saab Sonnet with Monticarlo Oil Injection with 4 speed on the column. Stomp shift, stomp shift, stomp shift, stomp shift. It made real ringy dingy sounds since it had a free wheeling unit to let the engine go to idle on deceleration.

Putting big wheels on a car for performance is a lot like slamming one to the ground then cruising through pot holes for fun.

Only exceptions are those using NOX or boosted intakes.

Good Luck,
Ron Carter
